Campaign to educate public on recycling
Al Ain: Waste managers have hired professionals for a door to door awareness campaign in the Oasis city to educate people about a recycling project.
The project is being implemented in 10 districts of Al Ain as well as Madinat Zayed, a city in the Abu Dhabi Emirate's Western Region, said an official of the Centre of Waste Management (CWM) — Abu Dhabi.
The drive includes Abu Dhabi city, Khalifa A, Khalifa B, Bein Jesrain and Mohammad Bin Zayed cities. The CWM plans to expand this service to other areas of the emirate, said the official.
The specially trained professionals will visit homes to clarify and discuss any issue about the project, said the official. In the door to door system, there will be a green bin for collecting dry recyclables and a black bin to collect all general waste.
The bins are to be kept in households and put out for collection as required.
The CWM contracts companies to collect these containers separately and ensures that all recyclables are moved to the appropriate area. The residual waste will be sent to a landfill, said the CWM official.
The project has already proved to be successful and the centre has been encouraging local communities to interact and respond to the recycling trends. "It is also important to improve hygiene and reduce the amount of waste generated through the waste hierarchy to reduce, reuse and recycle wastes, and to develop new industry for the use of recyclable materials," said the official.
