Experts consider plans to reduce use of plastic bags in UAE

Abu Dhabi: Plastic bag manufacturers, retail market owners, representatives of recycling plants, waste management experts, municipality executives and ministry officials discussed the possibility of getting rid of polythene and plastic bags to protect the environment.

In a discussion organised by the Ministry of Environment and Water, the participants pondered over the proposed plan to reduce the use of polythene bags by 15 per cent every year until the country gets rid of it completely to protect the environment.

The discussion, chaired by the Acting Assistant Undersecretary for fisheries affairs at the ministry Abdullah Bin Rashid Al Mualla, touched on topics like shopping bags, recycling of plastic products and the possibility of plastic manufacturing plants opting for alternative products.

Experts from Dubai Municipality participated in the discussion and presented the theme of converting waste into energy.
