Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, issued a law establishing the Hamdan Bin Mohammad Electronic University.

He also issued a decree appointing Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, as the supreme president of the university.

Shaikh Mohammad, in his capacity as ruler of Dubai, issued law No. 13 for the year 2009 establishing the university which will enjoy an independent financial, administrative and legal status in all its affairs. Hence the university may sign contracts with others, sue and be sued by others.

According to this law, the university will include a number of colleges, scientific research centres and specialised institutes. It also offers BA, MA and PhD programmes in different fields of academic specialisations, especially in the fields of business administration and quality.

The law also stipulates that the university's headquarters will be in Dubai and that branches may be established around the UAE and abroad after the board of trustees recommends such an action.

The university will offer education through the use of electronic devices thus offering the chance for a distinguished and continual educational service of high quality for all community individuals and establishments.
