Dubai A construction worker has been accused of hitting a policeman with a brick and bruising his head when the latter was removing massage cards posted on car windshields.

As part of a Dubai Police campaign to restrain placing cards advertising massage parlours on car windshields, a posse of policemen had been involved in a clean up drive in the Russian Cluster at Dubai International City.

When a policeman was removing such cards placed on a car windshield, a 26-year-old Nigerian worker struck him on his head with a brick.

The policeman fell down and was injured. His partners in the meantime managed to restrain and arrest the Nigerian suspect.

The 26-year-old resist ferociously, but was subdued.

Prosecutors accused the suspect of attacking the policeman with a brick while on duty.

The Nigerian suspect pleaded not guilty when he appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Thursday.

The assaulted policeman told prosecutors: “We were instructed by our superiors to remove and collect massage cards posted on windshields since it has become a growing menace. When I removed a number of cards, the suspect came towards me. While I continued removing the cards, he took me by surprise and attacked me with a brick. My partner rushed to my rescue. I was taken to hospital for treatment.”

A police sergeant confirmed his statement.

The suspect was quoted as admitting to prosecutors that he attacked the policeman with a brick.

A ruling will be heard on March 12.

Dubai Municipality proposes immediate deportation of people caught distributing massage cards by dropping them on doorsteps or tucking them on windscreens of parked vehicles.
