The Abu Dhabi Police have issued a warning to the public about new and increasingly deceptive methods adopted by fraudsters to deceive people online.
Fraudsters are reportedly luring unsuspecting individuals through fake advertisements and online auctions promoting the sale of high-end watches on social networking platforms.
Authorities urged vigilance as fraudsters adopt new methods to deceive people through digital, social media and phone-based schemes.
Victims are persuaded to transfer money in exchange for what they believe are genuine luxury timepieces. However, upon receiving and examining the items, buyers discover that the watches are counterfeit.
Authorities also cautioned against the use of bogus trading platforms and fraudulent employment advertisements, which are similarly designed to extract money or personal information under false pretences. The police urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or scams by contacting the toll-free number 8002626 (Aman service). They stressed the importance of verifying the legitimacy of online sellers and platforms before engaging in any financial transactions.
