Creative surges

A five-day workshop on ceramic flower-making is underway at Al Naadi in Al Ghurair City between 10.30am and 12.30pm. The workshop, conducted by Geeta Chaddha, is her first since she learnt the creative art from the Dubai International Art Centre, almost five years ago.

Geeta Chaddha will be teaching the art of ceramic rose flower-making during the workshop. All the necessary raw material will be provided at the venue and those interested are advised to get flower vases or bowls so that they can arrange their creations. The fee for the workshop is Dhs 250.

Says Geeta Chaddha: "I have always wanted to decorate my home with beautiful things. Ceramic flowers are beautiful to work with, and whenever people have come home they have expressed interest in learning the art of making ceramic flowers." On making the flowers, she says: "One has to work separately on the flowers and leaves, dip them in colour and then arrange them together. It is important to allow them to dry for at least a week. It is a long process, but the result is amazing.

"I like to make flowers and leaves look as natural as possible. Sometimes, when I roll out the leaf or press it and it breaks or cracks, I just let it be and colour it the way it is. All the flowers and leaves look different with varied hues."
