Canadian film writer to train UAE students in visual story telling

Al Ain: A celebrated Canadian film writer, Noel Baker, will shortly visit this oasis city to train young Emiratis in the art of script writing for documentaries, commercials and even full length feature films.

Baker will hold a series of lectures, demonstrations, and workshops for two weeks starting from November 16 at the UAE University (UAEU).

The opening ceremony will be held at Shaikh Zayed Central Library of the UAEU, which will be attended by Dr Abdullah Al Khanbashi, Vice-Chancellor.

Baker will launch the series with a presentation to the students, after which international flautist Dr Camilla Hoitenga and local opera soprano, Gaby Malzahn, will give a demonstration and performance focusing on music in the movies.

"I am very excited about my visit to the UAE as I believe the region is a treasure trove of untold stories steeped in its rich culture, heritage and history," Baker said.

He is a specialist in visual story-telling and will be guiding students through various steps of writing a movie script for television or the big screen.

Monique Holtzhausen, a spokesperson of the event organisers, said: "We already have a tremendous response from students who have registered for the event and it promises to be a very exciting and interesting two weeks."
