Agility, innovation and people power UAE' success: Ismail Al Naqi

Ismail Al Naqi, Director General of the Free Zones Authority of Ajman, highlighted the UAE’s remarkable transformation from fishing villages to a global hub, attributing its success to visionary leadership, strategic policies, and the united effort of its people during a keynote address at Gulf News’ Invest UAE seminar. The event is currently under way at V Hotel.

He emphasised that the country's success is shaped by the resilience and determination of its people, who have worked together to build the nation.

 “The UAE’s growth is driven by proactive decision-making, with the people playing a crucial role in driving the nation forward,” Al Naqi said.

Growth-oriented approach

Al Naqi stressed the importance of agility in the UAE's development.

“What drives the UAE is its agility in turning every challenge into an opportunity. We move quickly, adapt, and transform setbacks into opportunities for progress,” he said. This adaptability has allowed the UAE not only to overcome challenges but also to emerge stronger, driving innovation and investment.

He outlined how the UAE’s proactive approach to shaping its future has been central to its success. The UAE's growth story serves as an inspiring message for start-ups and entrepreneurs from across the world. The country’s focus on trade, transportation, and tourism – the three Ts – has created a business environment conducive to growth and investment.

Infrastructures support growth

While visionary policies are essential, Al Naqi noted that they must be supported by world-class infrastructure to drive meaningful progress.

“Visionary policies alone are not sufficient; they require a robust and world-class infrastructure to achieve their full potential,” he said.

The UAE has heavily invested in infrastructure, developing connectivity that has helped elevate the nation's position globally. These investments, combined with proactive governance, have created a business-friendly environment that attracts talent, investment, and technology.

Free zone potential

A key driver of the UAE’s economic growth has been its free zones, which play a critical role in attracting businesses and fostering diversification. Al Naqi pointed to the success of the Ajman Free Zone as a prime example of this strategy.

"This success is driven by our proactive strategies to enhance service levels," he said. “These strategies, such as streamlined processes and cost-effective set-up solutions, have created a thriving business environment in Ajman Free Zone, demonstrating the power of free zones in supporting economic growth and diversification across the UAE.”
