The Pixel 10 series introduces notable hardware makeovers
Google’s Pixel 10 series, launched August 20, 2025, is a bold leap in smartphone innovation.
The series boasts the TSMC-made Tensor G5 chip and AI-driven features like Gemini Live and Camera Coach.
Hailed as "game-changing," its triple-camera system and Android 16 integration could challenge the iPhone 17’s dominance.
With a 60% market share in foundry chips, TSMC’s role amplifies Pixel’s threat, potentially reshaping the smartphone landscape.
The Pixel 10 series introduces notable hardware upgrades, primarily centred around the new Tensor G5 chip, enhanced camera systems, and improved battery life.
Here are the key specifications based on leaks from reliable sources:
Tensor G5 Chip: The Pixel 10 series is powered by Google’s custom Tensor G5 chipset, manufactured using TSMC’s 3nm process, a shift from the Samsung-made 4nm Tensor G4.
This chip features a higher clock speed of up to 3.4GHz and an improved GPU, promising better performance and efficiency for AI and machine learning tasks.
The Tensor G5’s Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) is reportedly up to 60% more powerful, enhancing on-device AI capabilities. However, early reports suggest it may still lag behind competitors like Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite and MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400 in raw processing power.
RAM and Storage: The base Pixel 10 comes with 12GB of RAM and 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage, while the Pro models (Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL) feature 16GB of RAM and start at 256GB of faster Zoned UFS 4.0 storage, improving app loading and data transfer speeds.
Pixel 10: A significant upgrade for the base model, the Pixel 10 features a triple-camera setup for the first time, including a 48MP wide-angle (Samsung GN8 sensor), a 13MP ultrawide, and a 10.8MP telephoto lens with modest zoom capabilities. However, leaks suggest the primary and ultrawide sensors may be slightly downgraded compared to the Pixel 9 to accommodate the telephoto addition without increasing costs.
Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL: These models retain a robust triple-camera system with a 50MP wide-angle, 48MP ultrawide, and 48MP telephoto lens, consistent with the Pixel 9 Pro series. New features like telephoto macro capabilities and improved computational photography via the Tensor G5’s enhanced image-signal processor (ISP) are expected to elevate photo and video quality.
Pixel 10 Pro Fold: This model switches to a 50MP Samsung GN8 primary camera, with other sensors likely mirroring the Pro models.
Battery Capacity: The Pixel 10 has a 4,970mAh battery, the Pixel 10 Pro has 4,870mAh, and the Pixel 10 Pro XL boasts a 5,200mAh battery, all improvements over their Pixel 9 counterparts (4,700mAh for Pixel 9 Pro, 5,060mAh for Pixel 9 Pro XL).
These upgrades, paired with the efficient 3nm Tensor G5, promise over 30 hours of battery life compared to the Pixel 9’s 24+ hours.
Charging: All models support Qi2 wireless charging with built-in magnets, enabling MagSafe-style accessory compatibility, a first for Android flagships. A magnetic wireless charger and ring stand were showcased at the launch event.
Additional hardware details include 6.3-inch FHD+ displays for the Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro, a 6.8-inch QHD+ display for the Pixel 10 Pro XL, and an ~8.0-inch inner display for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
All models run Android 16 out of the box with the Material 3 Expressive UI, promising seven years of OS and security updates.
