Muralitharan’s eagerness to take Lara’s wicket evokes huge interest

Dubai. Sony SIX, India’s Premier Sports Entertainment Channel owned and operated by Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN) will telecast the Masters Champions League (MCL) set to commence from January 28 in UAE.

The channel expressed their keenness to telecast the event as they felt that it will be exciting to bring the event to fans who have grown up watching these legendary players who will be playing in the event. The tournament has evoked great interest in many Asian countries with world’s highest wickettaker Muttiah Muralitharan expressing his keenness to take the wicket of Brian Lara, the highest scorer in Test cricket here.

Muralitharan will be playing for Gemini Arabians while Lara will represent Leo Lions in the MCL matches. Incidentally Muralitharan has dismissed Lara only once One Day Internationals but got his wicket five times from eight Tests. The event will be telecast through Sony in Muralitharan’s country Sri Lanka apart from India, Nepal, Bhutan, Afghanistan and the Maldives.

Sony announced that all the 18 matches of the inaugural edition of the tournament from Dubai International Stadium and Sharjah Cricket Stadium will be beamed across the Indian sub-continent. With Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the current captain of the Indian national cricket team as the brand ambassador of the event, the event is expected to have a following in India too. The ticket sales for MCL have commenced with Dhoni urging fans to watch the event through a video message to fans.

Sony SIX has also been telecasting the Vivo Indian Premier League, Karnataka Premier League, Ram Slam T20 Challenge and the popular Caribbean Premier League. Six teams named after zodiac signs, such as Libra, Gemini, Sagittarius, Virgo, Capricorn and Leo are playing in the MCL.

The final match of the MCL is scheduled for February 13 at Dubai International Stadium. Sam Khan, Chief Executive Director, MCL, in a statement, said: “We are delighted that we are partnering with Sony SIX. They have an outstanding reputation as a sports broadcaster and have played an integral role in promoting and growing the game. We are very confident that they will do all that is necessary to do the same for the MCL”
