808 girls take part in the under 18 category
Abu Dhabi: Al Ain International Jiu-Jitsu Championship celebrated a new record, having gathered 808 girls under the age of 18 from various schools and clubs in the UAE.
Al Ain Club was ranked first with 13 golds, three silver, one bronze and a total of 466 points. Al Reef School clinched the second spot with four gold medals, five silver, eight bronze and 335 points followed by Al Jazeera with eight golds, two silver, two bronze medals and 310 points. The fourth place was bagged by Al Shiyam with two golds, four silver, 11 bronze medals and 301 points.
This Championship comes on the heels of the excellent performance of the UAE girls in international events, such as the Vietnam Asian Games, the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Turkmenistan, and the World U12 Championships in Montenegro.
Commenting on the turnout in the championship, and the excellent skills presented by Emirati female champions, Abdulmoneim Alsayed Al Hashimi, President of the UAE and Asian Jiu-Jitsu Federations and Vice President of the International Federation of Jiu-Jitsu, said: “UAE girls have proven their merit and earned support and appreciation in all fields, and Jiu-Jitsu is no exception. They were keen to mark 2017, a year we dedicated to women in Jiu-Jitsu, with this remarkable achievement of which we are proud.”
