Abu Dhabi: Hundreds of schoolchildren across the UAE are being introduced to the sport of jiu-jitsu ahead of next month’s Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship and World Jiu-Jitsu Children’s Cup.

The fifth annual event will be held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre from April 10 to 13 under the patronage of General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

As part of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation’s continued commitment to growing the sport domestically, this year’s schools initiative is being led by the new official mascot of the tournament, a falcon named Azzam.

Azzam and a number of jiu-jitsu coaches will conduct a two-week roadshow across the UAE offering fun coaching, training advice and health and fitness information. This is part of an action-packed schedule to encourage more young people to take up the sport as part of an active and healthy lifestyle.
