Samorin, Slovakia: Swedish-bred Mad Makz denied last year’s winner Al Asad from a repeat victory when storming home a two-length winner of the Group 3 Wathba Stud Farm Cup at Jagerosro racecourse in Malmo, Sweden.

The winner was ridden by Swedish jockey Martin Rodriguez for trainer Yasmine Nilsson. Mad Makz was completing a first home victory in many years for the Swedish connections.

Run over 1,200metres, the Wathba Stud Farm Sprint Cup is the last of the three Scandinavian Group 3 races, and was staged under the banner of the HH Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival. The race carried a purse of ¤13,880.12.

Gazel T, the mount of Swedish jockey Jacob Johansen, was a neck away in third place while Sartejano claimed fourth place from Al Janoob.

Mad Makz is one of the favourite inmates of the stables of owner/breeder Genberg & Co.
