LIV Golf 2025 - What's new?

The third season of LIV Golf League (and its fourth overall) is set to kick off this week in dramatic style under the lights at Riyadh Golf Club.

The Saudi-backed league is ushering in 2025 with fresh faces, new venues, and a revised team format designed to heighten the intensity of its unique approach to professional golf.

New format, more pressure

LIV Golf’s team format has undergone a significant tweak for the 2025 season. Previously, only three scores per team counted in the first two rounds, with all four scores factoring in the final round. This year, every player’s score will contribute in every round, raising the stakes for individuals and teams alike.

According to league officials, the change will enhance the drama and unpredictability of the team leaderboard over the tournament’s three days. With all players’ performances under scrutiny, the new system ensures no weak links can hide.

Expanded horizons

Riyadh is one of five fresh additions to LIV Golf’s schedule, which now spans an even broader global footprint. Other new venues include Mexico City, Korea, Indianapolis, and Michigan, which will host the Team Championship. Adelaide also sees a schedule shift to the Australian summer, while Washington, D.C., returns to the calendar at a new venue.

For the first time in LIV Golf’s history, all rounds in Riyadh will be played at night.

Debut players

This season welcomes six full-time debutants from six different countries. The new recruits bring a mix of youthful energy and proven talent to the competition:

• Tom McKibbin (Northern Ireland) – Legion XIII

• Yubin Jang (Korea) – Iron Heads GC

• Luis Masaveu (Spain) – Fireballs GC

• Frederik Kjettrup (Denmark) – Cleeks GC

• Ben Campbell (New Zealand) – RangeGoats GC

• Chieh-po Lee (Chinese Taipei) – Wild Card

McKibbin, Jang, Masaveu, and Kjettrup are in their early 20s and represent the next wave of emerging stars. Campbell, a former reserve player, appeared in three events last season and now earns his place on the roster. Meanwhile, Lee secured his spot by winning the LIV Golf Promotions event in Riyadh last year.

Additionally, Ollie Schniederjans will make his league debut as a reserve player, stepping in for injured HyFlyers GC captain Phil Mickelson. Schniederjans earned his place through standout performances on The International Series, including a victory at the International Series India.
