The wait is over: Barcelona set for return to Spotify Camp Nou for Athletic Club clash

After being away for two and a half years, FC Barcelona has confirmed their long awaited return to the Spotify Camp Nou this weekend for a La Liga match against Athletic Club.

Since moving to the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys in 2023 to allow for major redevelopment work, the Blaugrana and their supporters have been waiting for the moment they could come home.

Earlier dates, including the Joan Gamper Trophy and a league match against Valencia, had been mentioned as possible homecoming fixtures but did not materialise.

The return is now confirmed for Sunday’s league game against Athletic Club, with full approval from both the City Council and La Liga.

Capacity and Construction Update

In an official statement, the club announced that the return is possible after obtaining the first occupancy license for Phase 1B, which allows the stadium to host up to 45,401 spectators. This new authorization covers the entire Lateral area and adds to the previously granted license for the Tribune and South Goal (Phase 1A).

The club noted that work is continuing on Phase 1C to prepare the North Goal, ensuring all operational, security, and comfort conditions are met for members and fans.

Looking ahead, Barcelona is also working closely with UEFA to ensure their upcoming Champions League game against Eintracht Frankfurt can also be held at the renovated Spotify Camp Nou, pending final confirmation.
