Salah to the rescue for Liverpool

Liverpool: Mohammad Salah’s late goal gave Liverpool the points at Crystal Palace to leave the hosts two points above the relegation zone.

The star striker stroked the ball past goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey from an Andy Robertson cross.

Luka Milivojevic had converted from the spot early in the first half to give Palace the lead after Loris Karius took out Wilfried Zaha.

And Sadio Mane turned in James Milner’s cross shortly after the break to level.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson told Sky Sports: “It was a big result, We were not at our best, but we kept going and fighting.

“It is a sign of a good team to win while not playing our best. We kept finding way and Mo got another goal to win the game.

“At half-time we thought we could get back in the game and win it. The lads reacted brilliantly. We grinded out the result and that gives us momentum for the game on Wednesday (against Manchester City).”

In Italy’s Serie A, Edin Dzeko rescued a 1-1 draw at Bologna on Saturday as Roma were hit by a Radja Nainggolan injury that could compromise their Champions League quarter-final clash at Barcelona in midweek.

Second-half substitute Dzeko headed in after 76 minutes at the Stadio Dall’Ara after Erick Pulgar had given Bologna the lead on 18 minutes.

Roma were chasing a fourth straight Serie A win to consolidate third place, but Inter Milan and Lazio can close the gap when they play bottom two Verona and Benevento respectively later on Saturday.

“It’s difficult to explain what went wrong,” said Dzeko. “We were too slow in the first half, without movement, despite creating some interesting chances. They had one shot on goal and scored.

“In the end we got an important point, even if we think that we ultimately dropped two here today.”
