2008: Who won the first edition of the Indian Premier League in 2008? It's a good quiz question today as Rajasthan Royals, under player-mentor Shane Warne, were rank outsiders who won the first edition but could not really keep up to the early promise over the years. 2009: Remember Deccan Chargers? The Hyderabad-based franchise, who were later re-branded as Sunrisers Hyderabad, defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by six runs in a close final at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa. The tournament had to be shifted at a two weeks' notice outside the country with the Parliamentary elections in India coincided with the event and enough security could not be provided for the matches. 2010: Chennai Super Kings claimed the first of their three IPL crowns so far when they beat Mumbai Indians by 22 runs at the D.Y.Patil Stadium in Mumbai. The yellow shirts, under the leadership of 'Captain Cool' Mahendra Singh Dhoni, went on to beat Warriors to win the now defunct Champions League T20 League. Player of the Series: Sachin Tendulkar

2011: Chennai Super Kings proved their invincibility when they retained the crown in 2011, beating Royal Challengers Bangalore by 58 runs at home in Chennai. Player of the Series: Chris Gayle

2012: Kolkata Knight Riders, co-owned by the Bollywood icon Shahrukh Khan, shrugged off their nightmarish run in the intial years to win the first of their two titles so far. Led on both occasions by the now retired Gautam Gambhir, KKR beat Chennai Super Kings by five wickets in the final in Chennai. Player of the Series: Sunil Narine

2013: Harbhajan Singh breaks into a Gangnam Style jig with the trophy after Mumbai Indians won their first-ever title. They beat Chennai Super kings by 23 runs in a high voltage final at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata and ushered in captain Rohit Sharma's brilliant run in the league. 2014: Kolkata Knight Riders players are overjoyed after winning the seventh edition, beating Kings XI Punjab by three wickets in Bengaluru. The season also saw the IPL moving out of India for the second time, again for the Indian elections and the United Araab Emirates stepped in as perfect hosts as they staged matches in all three of their international venues: Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. 2015: Mumbai Indians won their second IPL crown when they beat Chennai Super Kings by 41 runs in the final at Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata. Player of the Series: Andre Russell

2016: Sunrisers Hyderabad, formed in 2012 after the former stakeowners declared insolvency, made their mark when they won their first title after only four years and followed it up with a series of consistent performances. They beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by eight runs in the final held in Bengaluru. Player of the Series: Virat Kohli

2017: Rohit Sharma's Mumbai Indians added yet another title to their kitty when they won the 10th edition of the title, beating Rising Pune Supergiant in the final at Hyderabad by one run. Incidentally, Rising Pune Supergiant and Gujarat Lions were the two franchises who filled in for two years in 2016 & 2017 when Chennai and Rajasthan Royals were facing bans for alleged involvement in corruption. 2018: Chennai Super Kings were crowned champions for the third time, soon after returning from the ban, when they defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets in the final held at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Player of the Series: Sunil Narine

2019: Mumbai Indians made it their fourth crown in the humdinger of a final against Chennai Super Kings, whom they pipped by one run in the final at Hyderabad. Player of the Series: Andre Russell
