Photos: UAE relief aid to flood victims in Pakistan

The Joint Operations Command of the Ministry of Defence continues its humanitarian operations in Pakistan by launching the second airlift of humanitarian aid from the UAE.

The second batch of aid included further relief supplies, shelter material, humanitarian aid, food and medications for people affected by the floods that hit the country.

The humanitarian aid was dispatched as per the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to support flood-hit Pakistan.

In the past three days, seven relief flights from UAE have landed in Pakistan carrying food items, medical supplies, tents, etc. Pakistan welcomed the assistance provided by the UAE in these times of crisis.

Imtiaz Feroz Gondal, Chargé d'Affairs of the Embassy of Pakistan in Abu Dhabi, has commended the UAE and its leadership for the noble humanitarian support for those affected by torrential rains and floods in Pakistan. The severe flooding has caused loss of lives and significant damage to infrastructure.

The UAE armed forces have dedicated military aircraft to transport humanitarian aid on account of the competitive edge they have gained in transporting relief material regionally and internationally.

The UAE relief aid includes some 3,000 tonnes of food supplies, as well as tonnes of medical and pharmaceutical supplies, in addition to tents and shelter materials.

The UAE relief teams will also provide all kinds of humanitarian support to Pakistani cadres and institutions concerned with efforts to secure the safety of the affected and their food, medical and logistical needs.

The death toll from Pakistan's catastrophic flooding is rising steadily, with 1,162 people, including 384 children and 231 women, dying from flooding since mid-June.

More than 33 million people in some 116 of Pakistan's 160 administrative districts have been affected by the floods, with at least 72 districts being declared disaster areas.
