Look: Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid visits Jumeirah Archaeological Site

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Thursday visited the Jumeirah Archaeological Site, where he toured its various facilities and excavation locations

The site, which was discovered in 1969, is one of the most historical archeological sites in the UAE. It belongs to the Abbasid era in the ninth century, when the settlement served as a caravan stop along a trading route connecting Iraq and Oman to India and China.

The site is home to eight buildings including a mosque, homes, a rest house and a museum. On the first leg of his tour, Sheikh Mohammed visited the museum that displays special collections of ancient treasures like pottery, coins, and tools.

Mehra Saif Al Mansouri, Emirati archaeologist at the Dubai Municipality, briefed Sheikh Mohammed and his accompanying delegation about the Museum's collections

Touring the 80, 000 square meter site, the Dubai Ruler visited ancient homes, rest houses, a mosque and other public facilities. Sheikh Mohammed expressed his pride in the UAE’s authentic history and its cultural legacy

Sheikh Mohammed also visited the excavation sites where he watched excavation operations being carried out by young Emirati archeologists.

He was accompanied by Sheikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of Emirates Group and airline, Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim Deputy Chairman of Police and General Security in Dubai, and other senior officials
