From the Editors: UAE launches unique services to safeguard human rights

UAE LAUNCHES UNIQUE SERVICES TO SAFEGUARD HUMAN RIGHTS: The National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) in the UAE has launched unique services to safeguard human rights in the country. It will launch various interactive services for the public to receive complaints from all individuals, including citizens, residents and visitors. The services will not only provide individuals information on any human rights abuse or violation witnessed but also allow people to submit suggestions, proposals and ideas for developing human rights in the country. The NHRI’s move to launch official website and social media accounts will help it interact with the public smoothly as well as promote a culture of human rights through awareness campaigns. CARLOS ALCARAZ TENNIS NEXT BIG THING ON CLAY?Spanish tennis players have historically had a love affair with claycourts, and the latest talent in this assembly line is Carlos Alcaraz, the 19-year-old who had been the talk of the game’s fraternity last week on his way to winning the Madrid Open on Sunday. There are good enough reasons for that – he is the youngest player since the start of the ATP Tour in 1990 to beat three top-five players at the same event – Rafael Nadal, the king of clay, world No.1 Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev in the final. Djokovic, who lost to him in the semi-finals, had no qualms about tipping Alcaraz as a firm favourite for the upcoming French Open. ‘’He definitely is special. Already he’s breaking a lot of records as a teenager, winning two Masters events this year, a couple of (ATP) 500s. It’s so refreshing to see that movies beyond Hollywood, Bollywood and South Indian cinemas are getting their due at the UAE box office. This past week, Marathi film ‘Chandramukhi’ has been making waves at local theatres starring actress Amruta Khanvilkar. Looking ahead and next week will mark the release of Japanese anime hit ‘Jujutsu Kaisen O’ that has enjoyed critical acclaim and commercial success in Japan and several international markets.
