Over the past couple of years many cases have been reported about the lack of safety measures for workers.

And yet the continuous carelessness by companies has been noticed on many occasions, which endangers the lives of and at times results in the death of workers who are the sole breadwinners of their families back home.

Two months ago, while driving along the Dubai-Sharjah highway around noon, which is the peak time for heavy traffic between the two emirates, I came across a shocking sight.

A construction worker was dangling from a height of 15 metres or more on a bridge, fixing an advertisement billboard, without using a safety harness.

The question to be raised here is why are companies failing to enforce safety rules?

Are all these workers ignorant of the consequences, or are they too naive to accept such dangerous work?

I strongly urge the authorities to seek compulsory safety measures for these hardworking employees.
