A late revelation about Scirocco

There is something bewitching about a coupé. Something that most men find hard to resist. I haven't figured out what it is, but one thing's for sure, both Amit and Dejan have fallen into the snare of two door cars. I'm not just talking about our long term Scirocco. If you remember, before the ‘Rocco, it was the Nissan Altima coupé that did its time at wheels towers. And if these two have it their way, the next long termer will probably also be a coupé.

Not that I don't like coupés. Whenever we get a break from work, and when we step out for lunch, I make sure I get to drive the 'Rocco. And I must admit, it is one helluva car. But in all these 60-odd days, I'd never taken it home, because I presumed I wouldn't be able to fix my little girl's seat in the rear.

So it was a revelation, joyous and disappointing at the same time, when I found out this week that the car has Isofix rear seats. (For those not used to ferrying kids around, Isofix is the international standard for attachment points for child seats in cars.) I was happy because the whole family could enjoy the Scirocco on the weekend, and disappointed because the Scirocco is not going to be with us for many more weekends.

Anyway, I made the most of my time with the ‘Rocco. We went all the way to Dibba, and I was surprised that the ride was as comfortable as my softly-sprung saloon, only it was a lot more fun to drive.

It was such a hit that by the time we were back, my wife was doing the maths for a 48-month instalment, and she found out that we could afford it.

And I think that's one of the most endearing things about this car. It's great fun, and it's affordably so.
