Dubai: The Emirates National Identity Authority (Eida) has extended the deadline for the ID card registration of Emirati and expatriate children under the age of 15 until October 3.

The three-day extension is in response to demands by parents who could not manage to get their children registered in the population census and ID card register until now, and also out of Eida's keenness to gain customer satisfaction and save them from paying fines for delay.

A one-year deadline was earlier given by Eida for the ID card registration of persons under the age of 15. The deadline was supposed to end on Sunday, and those who fail to meet that deadline will have to pay a daily fine of Dh20.

The authority urged parents to quickly take the opportunity and register their children to avoid paying delay fines.

There are more than 1,200  registration centres set up by Eida in the UAE to ensure that everyone will have the ID card. It also called on expatriates to register their children whose residency visas are due to expire in 2012, to coincide with the renewal of their visas.
