Abu Dhabi: I came to the UAE in 2012.
“There are so many ways [to enrich oneself] during Ramadan. It is the month of fasting, getting closer to God and reciting the Quran.
During this month, it is important for me to pray, fast and fulfil my obligations in Islam and accept God in my heart. Also, Ramadan is a chance to think about those that are less fortunate.
“Ramadan has taught me many things. For instance, I have learnt how to be patient and give myself a chance to get closer to God. Also, I have learnt the beauty of giving without waiting for returns. Also, kindness and spirituality are evident from everyone during Ramadan. Everyone tries their utmost to do good and be good. Basically, Ramadan is all about sharing and getting closer to Allah.
“I try to spend more time praying, saying Dua’a, reciting the Quran and giving more to charity during the month. Also, fasting for me does not [only] mean keeping myself away from food, but it [also] means humbling oneself and help increasing one’s moral discipline as well as [letting the month] serve as a reminder of the plight of those less fortunate.
“Back home, there are a lot of family gatherings and prayers. I prefer spending Ramadan back home in Yemen with friends and family.”
