DUBAI An Azerbaijani visitor has been charged with stabbing a man to death during a street brawl at Jamal Abdul Nasser Square in Naif.

According to the charge sheet, a vicious pre-determined fight broke out between two groups of men, one from Azerbaijan and the other from Tajikistan, last December 13.

According to the prosecution, Z.M, the 34-year-old Azerbaijani, stabbed Seyavoch Kholov repeatedly during the fight, causing his death. Six other men have been accused of beating the deceased’s friends.

An Egyptian waiter at a nearby café who witnessed the fight testified: “At 6.45pm as I was serving customers, I saw two groups of people walk into an open space behind Deira tower. As soon as they got there a bloody fight broke out between them.”

The two gangs turned every object they got into weapons. “One man used a wooden ladder and another used trash cans,” said the waiter.

Their next hearing is on April 28.
