Shah Rukh Khan, affectionately known as King Khan, is beaming with joy after winning his first-ever National Film Award. The actor received the Best Actor award at the 71st National Film Awards for his powerful performance in Jawan.

Despite recovering from an injury sustained while shooting for his upcoming film King, Shah Rukh took to X (formerly Twitter) to thank his fans and supporters. Dressed in a black t-shirt and beanie, with his arm in a sling, he appeared before a bookshelf, smiling warmly.

“I am overwhelmed with gratitude, pride, and humility,” Shah Rukh said. “To be honoured with a National Award is a moment I will cherish for a lifetime. Thank you to the jury, the chairman, the I&B ministry, and everyone who thought I was worthy of this honour.”

Witty message to fans

Known for his wit, SRK joked about wanting to spread both arms to hug his fans but being limited to just one due to his injury. “I would love to spread my arms for you and share my love, but I’m a bit indisposed. But don’t worry, just keep the popcorn ready. I’ll be back in theatres and soon on the streets. So, till then, just with one hand. Ready?”

Thanks to collaborators

He also thanked the directors and writers who gave him strong roles in 2023, with a special mention for Jawan director Atlee. “Thank you, Raju sir. Thank you, Saeed. And especially thanks to Atlee sir and his team for giving me the opportunity and trusting me to deliver and be worthy of this award.”

A successful comeback

Shah Rukh made his cinematic comeback in January 2023 with YRF’s Pathaan after a four-year break. The film was a box office blockbuster, followed by another hit, Jawan, which helped him secure his first National Award.

King Khan’s legacy: More than just a star

With a career spanning over three decades, Shah Rukh Khan remains one of the biggest superstars in Indian cinema and worldwide. Nicknamed the ‘Baadshah of Bollywood,’ SRK has won numerous prestigious awards, including the Padma Shri from India and France’s Legion of Honour and Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. His National Award for Jawan is a well-deserved addition to his illustrious legacy.
