The Dabangg girl gets rowdy

Move over Priyanka Chopra; Sonakshi Sinha is being heralded as the real desi (traditional) girl! The Dabangg girl has no qualms about donning a sari in Rowdy Rathore and playing a small town girl while the audience is only too happy to finally see a woman who is proud to be Indian. Excerpts from an interview:

Do you think you have brought back the trend of the village belle/desi heroine?

I hope so; I fit into the desi girl bracket well. Most people don’t suit the role, which makes me believe I am in a better spot because I’m not required to squeeze into a mini skirt!

Tell us something about your role in the film?

She is an outspoken and vivacious city girl from Patna. She is very bubbly, which is very different from my role in Dabangg.

What did you love about working with Prabhudeva?

He is an amazing director. Despite the unending energy on screen, he is very patient and explains your scenes without ever losing his cool.

How was working with Akhsay Kumar for the first time?

Just working with him was a great experience. Akshay is very punctual which I really appreciate because I am punctual and hate the concept of waiting. It is amazing for a star of his calibre to be present five minutes before call time.

What are your memorable moments of this film?

There is a song choreographed by Saroj Khan, whom I have heard is very strict and extracts perfection from her actors. I was a bundle of nerves but she was so nice! When I completed a difficult dance sequence in one shot, Saroji actually stood up applauding and gave me Rs101; It really moved me!

How good a dancer are you?

I don’t know! I dance because I enjoy it; I completely immerse myself in the music. I also love performing on stage because the energy is amazing. BM
