From television to the celluloid screen, Mia George’s acting career is impressive, with roles opposite bigwigs from the Malayalam industry. After debuting as a heroine in Chettayees, George played Prithviraj’s wife in Memories, And then an ordinary bank clerk opposite Jayaram and Suresh Gopi in Joshy’s Salaam Kashmir. The actress, who is pursuing her masters, held her own in the midst of the two stalwarts. Mr Fraud was next with Mohanlal. George’s last release was Jr. Lal’s Hi I am Tony, where she was paired opposite Asif Ali. In an exclusive interview with tabloid!, George looks back on her journey in films.

Acting as a career

“I never intended to become an actor. But it happened when I got a role in the television serial, Alfonsamma, after the priest of the church I go to suggested my name. The priest had written lyrics for this serial. I was in class ten then. Television took me to my first film, Oru Small Family, and then to Chettayees as a heroine. I aspired to become a teacher someday.”

How ‘Amarakaaviyam’ happened

“I was surprised when I received a call from Jeeva Shankar sir. Initially, I was not keen on working in a new language, yet he mailed the story to me. I was touched by this love story and did not want to miss this role of a teenager in love.”

Tamil cinema experience

Shankar sir is a good human being who explained everything so clearly that I did not have any doubts. He had done his home work well. Karthika is unlike other roles that I have done. She is in class 8. Her costumes and make-up belong to the ’80s. I had to abide by a few things like not shaping my eyebrows for some time. I also did not trim my hair for seven months. Karthika is not mere armcandy but of great significance in the story. It called for an emotion-packed performance. I enjoyed my first experience in the Tamil film industry.”

Sathya and me

“Bonding with Sathya was easy, with him being a Malayali like me. He often helped me with my lines.”
