The playwright recently adapted Munshi Premchand’s Urdu short story, ‘Eidgah’, for an Indo-Norwegian production ‘5 Rupiya’

The popularity of noted novelist and playwright Umera Ahmad, who is especially credited for her drama serials Zindagi Gulzar Hai, Meri Zaat Zarra e Be Nishan, Doraha and Shehr e Zaat, is taking her across the continents. While she recently adapted Munshi Premchand’s Urdu short story, Eidgah, for an Indo-Norwegian production, 5 Rupiya, which starred Shabana Azmi in the lead, Ahmad has now been invited by the Oxford Union at the University of Oxford, London, as a guest speaker on Pakistani fiction writing.
Ahmad, who is extremely shy about public appearances (she has never allowed her photos to be printed anywhere in the media) recently took to social media to express her gratitude. She also said she was “still indecisive about accepting this invite but I am indeed delighted to receive this honour.”
