The 35-year-old model was accused of encouraging young girls to starve themselves
Kate Moss was criticised for failing to issue a proper apology after boasting that it was better to be skinny than to eat.
The 35-year-old model was accused of encouraging young girls to starve themselves after using an anorexics' slogan.
Moss, who earns millions from her modelling contracts and designing deal with high street chain Topshop, caused anger by revealing that one of her mottos is the phrase "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels".
Moss — who has been called a "thinspiration" by pro-anorexia websites — then tried to clarify the remark by adding: "You try and remember, but it never works."
Faced with criticism from eating disorder charities for her comments, Moss rushed out an apology on Friday, but it turned out to be rather half-hearted.
All she could muster for her legions of impressionable fans were the words: "For the record — Kate does not support this as a lifestyle choice."
The comments angered Moss' mentor and friend, Topshop chief Sir Philip Green, and the model wept to friends: "I feel like such an idiot."
It also led to a row with her boyfriend Jamie Hince, who accused her of failing to think before she spoke.
A source close to the model said: 'All hell has broken loose. Kate was on the phone with Philip Green for ages and he was really upset. He told her that her range and Topshop caters to young girls and these kind of comments can jeopardise the firm's image.
