Dubai: Ed Sheeran’s impromptu street performance in Bengaluru hit a sour note when police intervened and unplugged his microphone mid-song.

The global star was performing his hit Shape of You on the bustling Church Street in Bengaluru ahead of his concert later that night when law enforcement officers stepped in, citing a lack of permission.

In a now-viral video, Sheeran is seen leaving the scene as onlookers jeered. However, the singer later clarified on Instagram: “We had permission to busk, by the way. This was planned, not random. All good though.”

According to reports, police official Shekar T Tekkannanavar stated the performance was halted due to concerns about overcrowding.

Despite the disruption, Sheeran went on to wow fans at his concert later that night, performing with Indian singer Shilpa Rao and even singing Telugu hits.

Fans were divided on social media, with some blaming the authorities for dampening the moment, while others supported the need for rules.

Sheeran, known for his love of busking, is currently on his Mathematics tour, marking India as a growing hotspot for international live music events.
