Chhaava features Vicky Kaushal in a career-defining role as the epic Indian warrior
Dubai: Vicky Kaushal’s historical epic Chhaava is making a strong impact at the box office, recording 36,931 footfalls in its opening weekend in the UAE while surpassing the Rs 1billion mark in India. The film’s stellar opening was followed by a predictable Monday drop, but it continues to hold steady.
In India, Chhaava has collected an estimated Rs1.26 billion nett in just four days, overtaking the lifetime collection of Sky Force Rs 1.11 billion.
Directed by Laxman Utekar, Chhaava features Vicky Kaushal in a career-defining role as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, with Akshaye Khanna earning praise for his performance as Aurangzeb.
The film also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Ashutosh Rana, Diana Penty, and Divya Dutta.
Despite its Monday slowdown, Chhaava reportedly remains one of the year’s most successful Hindi films.
With strong word-of-mouth, its performance in the UAE and other international markets will be crucial in determining its long-term box office run.
In an interview with Gulf News, Vicky described his role as his career's most toughest.
"This has been the most physically demanding and challenging role for me because I’ve never done anything like this before. It’s my first historical period film, which required a complete physical transformation—putting on about 25 kilos of muscle mass, sword fighting, action training, growing a beard, and growing my hair. All of this takes time, and it took about six to seven months of preparation to achieve," said Vicky in that interview.
