Brooklyn’s hipsters take to shuffleboard

New York: First it was bowling, then ping-pong and now shuffleboard is making the transition from a senior citizen’s recreational activity to become the latest trend in New York’s hipster neighbourhood Brooklyn, according to the New York Times.

Either two players or two teams collect match points by pushing discs using aluminium poles into a winning position on an elongated court.

Two DJs stumbled upon a thriving shuffleboard scene in Florida, decided to take the idea to New York and opened up their own club.

“Shuffleboard is a sport with a low athletic buy-in and offers plenty of time to drink between turns,” writes the New York Times. “That may appeal to Brooklynites.”
