Queen Bey earns first Emmy, edging closer to EGOT status
Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, better known simply as Beyoncé, has earned her first Emmy Award alongside her impressive 35 Grammys.
She was one of about half a dozen people credited for winning Outstanding Costumes for a Variety, Nonfiction, or Reality Program for Beyoncé Bowl, her Western-themed halftime show during Netflix’s Christmas NFL game between the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans.
The show, filmed in Beyoncé’s hometown of Houston, featured the live debut of songs from her Cowboy Carter album.
This Emmy marks Beyoncé’s first win after 10 previous nominations, bringing her halfway to an EGOT — she still needs a Tony and an Oscar to complete the coveted quartet.
The award is part of the juried Emmys, which are decided by committees outside the regular voting process. These awards often honor highly technical categories, rarely involving celebrity names, and are announced in advance of the Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony next month.
In addition to this costume award, Beyoncé is also nominated as a producer of Beyoncé Bowl for Best Variety Special and for Best Direction of a Variety Special. Her husband, Jay-Z, is also competing — as executive producer of Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show.
