Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has hoisted the UAE flag at the Union House in Dubai on Wednesday to mark President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s accession as President of the UAE.

The ceremony came as the UAE celebrated its 6th Flag Day by hoisting the nation’s flag at public and private buildings at noon.

The UAE Flag campaign website was inaugurated on Tuesday by Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth, and Community Development.

The website www.uaeflag.ae allows citizens and expatriates to express their feelings for the UAE flag, that reflects feelings of loyalty and dignity for the country.

Earlier this week, his Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, called for launching a national, popular, comprehensive and continuous campaign to mark Flag Day and called on all Emiratis to hoist the flag and participate in the national event.

Flag Day falls on November 3, the day of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s accession as President of the UAE.

In a statement to the people of UAE on Sunday, Shaikh Mohammad said: “The flag demonstrates our unity behind our leader, President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, our love for him, and the pledge of the people to be loyal to him as a president and leader of the UAE.”

He also directed the federal department and ministries to hoist the flag simultaneously on Wednesday at 12pm, as a symbol of unification of the UAE’s flag across all its land and buildings.

The campaign, organised by the ministry, was launched under the slogan “Raise it up high.. to keep it high”.

Shaikh Nahyan said that the website is a key channel to communicate with all segments of society, providing data and information related to the campaign.

The website also provides information on various activities and programmes that will be organised by the ministry to mark the campaign, which will continue until December 2, the UAE National Day.
