The UAE's west coast is set to become a tourist destination with the opening of a deluxe resort early next year.

Work is nearing completion at the five-star Danat Resort in Jebel Dhanna, 240 km west of Abu Dhabi. The 109-room property will be owned and operated by Danat Hotels and Resorts, a division of the National Tourism and Hotels Corp (NTHC).

The launch of the resort, the first five-star hotel on the undeveloped west coast of the UAE, marks a new phase in the country's development. It is described as a breakaway destination and one of its key selling points is a full kilometre of unspoilt beach.

Manoj Kanwal, general manager of the resort, said it would offer guests the chance to experience the more unspoilt parts of the UAE.

"Everybody is looking for the chance to discover something different, whether they are UAE residents looking for a weekend getaway or visitors and tour operators from farther afield. "We are confident that our product stands out from the crowd."

The resort also offers top-of-the-range conference facilities for businesses.

"Given its extensive banqueting and meeting facilities, the resort is an excellent location for team-building, company retreats and corporate guests. We can cater up to 1,000 people at events like this," Kanwal said.

The resort will house five restaurants offering multi cuisines, and its flagship restaurant will provide pan-Arab dining.

Other facilities include a spa and health centre, tennis and squash courts, golf course and a driving range. Fishing and drive safaris will be available as will surfing and sailing.

Exclusive tours to the nearby Sir Baniyas Island wildlife reserve will also be available.
