Dubai: Oman Insurance has signed a contract with the Consulate General of Bangladesh to provide insurance cover for Bangladeshi domestic workers in Dubai.

Under the contract, the sponsor must obtain insurance for Bangladeshi domestic workers covering compensation for death, accidental medical expenses, repatriation expenses and legal expenses.

This agreement follows a similar initiative launched between Oman Insurance and the Sri Lankan consulate in Dubai.

"Domestic employees are often exploited and neglected. Our signing of the contract with the Consulate General of Bangladesh, Dubai is further proof of our commitment to serve the society where it matter the most," said Abdul Muttalib Mustafa Al Jaidi, CEO of Oman Insurance Company.

Mohammad Abu Zafar, Consul General of Bangladesh in Dubai, said: "The agreement will provide a mechanism for ensuring the welfare of Bangladeshi housemaids who feel insecure and isolated by working in a foreign workplace.

"The agreement goes a long way in providing solace to their family members back home."
