Abu Dhabi: Ahead of Eid Al Fitr, the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED) has issued a stern warning to traders, vendors, and suppliers of essential goods and consumer products.

The department emphasised strict adherence to pricing regulations, sales activities, and market stability to ensure product availability and prevent market disruptions.

In an official statement, ADDED reminded businesses of key regulations:

• Prices must be clearly displayed in local currency, either on the item or in a visible location.

• Additional or unjustified service fees, including credit card transaction charges, are prohibited.

• Consumers must receive the exact change as stated on their purchase receipt.

• Misleading or deceptive advertisements are strictly forbidden.

• Product packaging must include a clear Arabic label detailing product type, ingredients, production/expiry dates, weight, country of origin, and usage instructions where applicable.

• Suppliers must not discriminate in pricing or product quality among consumers.

• Consumers are entitled to a dated invoice with the supplier’s name, address, product details, unit price, quantity, and total price in local currency.

• The phrase “Goods sold are non-refundable and non-exchangeable” must not appear on invoices, contracts, or in-store.

• Promotional offers, advertisements, and direct marketing — such as flyers, SMS, calls, or door-to-door visits — require prior approvals and permits.

• Exchange and return policies must be clearly displayed in Arabic on invoices, contracts, and in a visible location within the store.

• Businesses must comply with directives from the Abu Dhabi Business Registration Authority, available at adra.gov.ae.

ADDED warned that non-compliance could lead to penalties and urged businesses to maintain transparency and fairness during the festive season.
