Dubai: Caparol, the largest paint and insulation manufacturer in Germany, inaugurated a new factory in Dubai Industrial City (DIC) with a joint venture with Emaar Industries and Investments on Sunday.

“The factory has been developed at a cost of Dh40 million in Dubai Industrial city as our access to meet the demand of GCC market as well as Lebanon, Levant and East Africa which is estimated at a value of Dh2.5 billion,” said Gary Seabrook, General Manager of Caparol Paint.

“Our new facility will ensure that we can meet this increased demand from the region, which currently witnesses massive investments in new building and infrastructure.”

The factory is built on 20,000 sq.m area and has a capacity of 30,000 tonnes per year with provision for further expansion.

He said Caparol has operated in Dubai for 13 years in Al Quoz but the new factory has double the capacity. The company is also considering further expansion.

Their next upcoming factory will be in Saudi Arabia in the next two years, Seabrook said.

Mohammad Al Abbar, Chairman of Emaar Properites, told media persons that Emaar Industries and Investments will be launching other new industrial projects inside and outside the UAE, revealing that they have signed several contracts.

“Emaar Industries and Investments has been established to promote this sector and in the UAE we have a good legislation for this purpose. However, what is needed are new ideas and proper capital management,” he said.

Abdullah Belhoul, Managing Director of Dubai Industrial City, said at present there are 35 industrial firms at DIC across all business segments, with a total investment value at Dh2 billion.

“The number of industrial companies will reach 50 by the end of this year and grow further up to 100 firms in two years’ time.”

At a cost of Dh4 billion, Dubai Industrial City has developed the infrastructure required to ease industrial business process.

“Manufacturing is playing an increasingly important role in our economy as we diversity our source of growth, and the launch of Caparol’s new production facility and training centre in the Dubai Industrial City, will make a positive difference in boosting the manufacturing base in the UAE and the wider region,” he said.
