Fake Ferrari from cult classic flick Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is more expensive than a real new one!

A fake Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder - used in classic comedy flick Ferris Bueller's Day Off - has gone under the hammer and sold for more than the price of a new Italian supercar!

The car - one of three replicas built for the 1986 cult classic starring Matthew Broderick – got plenty of interest when it went on the block at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. It went for an impressive $396,000 – but a brand new Ferrari 812 Superfast V12 flagship costs less than that!

With Ferrari making just over 100 of the cars an original was difficult to get hold of – and considering what happens at the end of the movie to the car (fans will know exactly what we’re talking about!), it’s a good thing the producers had to make do with a replica!

Unlike an actual Ferrari 250 GT which has a V12, this one is powered by a Ford V8 paired to a five-speed manual transmission. Serial number GTC001 was built by Modena Design & Development and was one of three used for filming. Only a few months prior to this auction, the car underwent a body-off restoration.

The car received a few upgrades during the restoration such as carbon fiber inner-tubes for weight reduction. The 16-inch wire wheels, wrapped in BF Goodrich tires, were custom-built.

And what iconic movie car wouldn't come with some memorabilia, such as build photos, a 1/24-scale die-cast model, a Hot Wheels version, and a certificate of authenticity from the build company.

This actually isn't the first time this famous Ferris Bueller Ferrari crossed the auction block, having previously done so in August 2018 when it sold for $407,000. Despite not being a real Ferrari, it has Hollywood icon status and that clearly counts for a lot.
