Joshua Grenville-Wood, the UAE's No.1 professional golfer, moved closer to securing his spot in the Challenge Tour Grand Final after finishing tied for fifth at the rain-affected Swiss Open.

The 26-year-old posted rounds of 72 and 68 at Golf Saint Apollinaire, finishing five shots behind champion Euan Walker. The tournament was shortened to 36 holes due to a three-hour weather delay on Thursday and a complete washout on Saturday caused by a flooded course.

Grenville-Wood’s fifth place finish is his second-best result of the season and banked him a fair share of Road to Mallorca points. The Dubai resident moves up ten places to 57th in the season-long standings and a step closer to booking his place in the Challenge Tour Grand Final.

The season-ending event is only open to the top 45 players on the Road to Mallorca Rankings and offers them a final chance to earn life-changing DP World Tour cards for the 2025 season.

Following the culmination of that tournament at Club de Golf Alcanada, the top 20 players on the Rankings will earn promotion to golf’s global circuit, giving them the opportunity to compete with the likes of Tommy Fleetwood and Rory McIlory on a regular basis.

“Rollercoaster of a week here in Switzerland,” Grenville-Wood posted on Instagram.

“Having played the first round in the rain to not being able to play for two whole days due to a flooded course.

“Was a tough week mentally but hung in there and put in a good final round to finish T5 and move myself back up the order of merit! Now time to go home to Dubai for a few days before heading to China.”

While Grenville-Wood is set to miss this week’s D+D Real Czech Challenge, he will have the opportunity to strengthen his ranking at the Challenge Tour’s double-header in China, with both events offering increased points.

The UAE will still have representation in the Czech Republic, with amateur Ahmad Skaik receiving an invitation to compete through the Emirates Golf Federation’s long-term partnership with the European Tour group, which aims to develop golf in the UAE until 2031 at the earliest.
