Malayalam film Mangalyam Thanthunanena, directed by Soumya Sadanandan, explores a couple’s relationship after they tie the knot.

Kunchako Boban plays Roy, who had been working in the Gulf but is now unemployed. His wife, Clara, played by Nimisha Sajayan, belongs to a family of bankers. While Roy’s search for work looks futile, he is not keen on joining Clara’s family business. Trouble brews when he asks Clara for her jewellery so he can get a loan.

This family drama, written by Tony Madathil, is supported by an interesting cast including Shanthi Krishna, Alencier Ley Lopez, Vijayaraghavan and Hareesh Kanaran.

Mangalyam Thanthunanena refers to the mangalyasutram (sacred necklace) tied during the wedding by the groom around the bride’s neck and is the beginning of a Sanskrit verse recited at the time.

This is Sadanandan’s feature film debut. Her documentary Chembai — My Discovery of a Legend won an Indian National Award earlier.
