Medical Korea 2023 showcases South Korea's prowess in AI and digital health technology

Over 65 business partnership consultations were conducted at the conference

Adopting Digital & AI Technology in Medical Services, co-hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to the UAE, the Department of Health (DOH) - Abu Dhabi, and G42 Healthcare and organized by the Korea Health Industry Development Institute(KHIDI), was held in Abu Dhabi on October 31. The conference aimed to show the enhancement of South Korea’s digital and AI medical companies and to bridge them with the UAE partners for the cooperation in digital and AI medical fields between South Korea and the UAE.

The ‘Medical Korea 2023’ in the UAE was carried out with various strategic partners including SEHA, KEZAD Group, Abu Dhabi Investment Office(ADIO), KOTRA Dubai and KDB Bank Abu Dhabi. The conference was commenced with great interest, with more than 430 participants including local medical professionals, medical device distributors, investment companies, etc. from both private and public sectors.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the UAE, Yoo Jehseung referred to President Yoon Suk Yeol of the Republic of Korea’s comment that “National health cannot be exchanged for anything, and political diplomacy and economic industrial policies are all secondary to national health.” Yoo said, “I hope that Korea and the United Arab Emirates will be of great help in protecting the lives and health of the people by enhancing cooperation in health care.”

At the event, the Korea-UAE government's policy to foster AI and digital medical industries and cases of clinical use of AI and digital technologies in hospitals were presented.

In particular, over 65 business partnership consultations were conducted at the same time between 10 Korean digital and AI companies on the latest digital and AI medical technologies and products. The consultation amount is expected to reach $3.7 million, which will serve as an opportunity for Korean digital and AI companies to enter the UAE and Middle East market.

 Lee Youngho, director general of KHIDI UAE office said, “It is quite unusual for more than 65 digital and AI medical companies and government institutions to gather together in the UAE. Major countries that are advanced in the filed of medicine, including the UAE, are pursuing strategies to reflect digital and AI technology trends in their medical systems. As of 2022, the digital healthcare global market is estimated to be more than $223.5billion, and the UAE government is also promoting digital innovation across the healthcare sector (UAE: Digital innovation to accelerate across healthcare sector). Through this conference, we hope many companies with digital and AI healthcare technology to enter the UAE,” he said.
