Dubai’s iCademy brings in new ways to tackle AI-assisted plagiarism
New tools can map out potential copying in work submissions by students
Dubai: Educational institutions are ready to take on AI created challenges. Dubai-based iCademy Middle East plans to bring on board new tools to scan student submissions to identify instances of plagiarism, including AI-related cheating.
The system will use advanced algorithms and Machine Learning models to identify similarities between student work and other sources. If the system detects plagiarism, the student will receive a notification, and the instructor will be alerted.
“An outright ban on AI tools like ChatGPT is likely to be counterproductive,” said Diane Claver- Head of School, iCademy Middle East. “Students are usually tech-savvy and won’t find it difficult to work around measures such as IP bans on school networks.
“ChatGPT has integrated protective measures which, given proper parent or teacher supervision, ensure that answers are appropriate.”

iCademy’s teachers monitor students’ work and growth over the course of the semester and the school year. A student suddenly turning in written work of vastly higher quality, or an ESL student whose written assignments become suddenly flawless from a grammar and usage standpoint, would be flagged for discussion with the teacher and an Academic Integrity Counselor.
