Manila: Volcanologists reported a thick plume of smoke being spewed out by Mount Kanlaon, an active volcano in central Philippines, shortly before noon on Monday (April 14) following dozens of earthquakes.

"Onging ash emission at Kanlaon Volcano which began at 11:52 AM today, 14 April 2025 has been generating voluminous ash plumes as tall as 800m from the summit crater," emergency workers posted on X.

"Ash is currently being drifted west-northwest of the volcano. Residents of La Carlota City, Bago City, and other nearby towns should expect ashfall. Alert Level 3 prevails over Kanlaon Volcano."

Volcanologists also reported that they recorded at least 33 volcanic quakes on Kanlaon within the last 24 hours, as of 10am on Monday.

Kanlaon volcano is situated on Negros Island (13,310 km²) in central Philippines.

Sulfur dioxide flux emitted by the volcano is recorded at 1,931 tonnes, as of April 13, 2025 that generated 100-metre-tall moderate plume which drifted southwest and west.

The volcano edifice is "inflated", Phivolcs added.

Local emergency workers have raised the Alert Level to 3 at Kanlaon Volcano, which means “intensified unrest or magmatic unrest.”
