Brydon Carse replaced by Sonny Baker after handcuff incident

England fast bowler Brydon Carse will be unavailable for selection for the second Test against Pakistan after the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) referred an incident in Derby to the Cricket Regulator for investigation.

Sonny Baker has been called up to replace Carse for the second Test against Pakistan.

The ECB said the regulator will examine events that took place on Saturday evening in Derby. Carse will remain ineligible for selection while the investigation is ongoing and the full circumstances are established.

Videos circulating on social media appeared to show the 31-year-old in handcuffs and speaking to police officers outside a venue. Later it was reported that Carse was not arrested and was released without charge.

Carse was in Derby celebrating Durham’s County Championship victory over Derbyshire when the incident reportedly took place. Footage published on social media also showed him speaking with Durham teammate Matthew Potts, with former England captain Ben Stokes visible in the background.

“Following a referral from the ECB, the Cricket Regulator have confirmed that they will investigate events on Saturday night in Derby. Brydon Carse will no longer be available for selection for the Second men’s Rothesay Test match while this investigation is ongoing and the full facts are obtained,” the ECB said in a statement.

Carse was part of England’s squad for the first two Tests against Pakistan but was released during the opening match to return to Durham for their County Championship fixture. He did not feature in England’s first-Test victory at Headingley.
