Patna: The Enforcement Directorate, a specialised financial investigation agency under the Government of India, yesterday attached the Delhi farmhouse of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) parliamentarian Misa Bharti in the multibillion money laundering case. Bharti is the eldest daughter of RJD president Lalu Prasad.

Authorities told the media that the farmhouse located in Bijwasan locality of south Delhi has been attached provisionally under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The property was apparently purchased in the year 2008-2009.

“They said the property was purchased using Rs12 million (Dh687,454) involved in money-laundering,” an ED official told the media today. Reports said the farmhouse had been purchased in the name of Mishail Packers and Printers, where Misa and her husband Shailesh Kumar are directors.

Earlier in July, the ED had carried out extensive searches at the Delhi farm houses of the RJD parliamentarian during which they seized some incriminating documents.

Subsequently, Misa and her husband were quizzed by the agency, but failed to give satisfactory replies about their source of income.
