Ras Al Khaimah: As students across the emirate returned to classrooms for the start of the 2025–26 academic year, Ras Al Khaimah Police launched a traffic safety initiative aimed at easing congestion and reducing accidents.
The program, launched under the Ministry of Interior’s nationwide campaign “accident-free day” offers motorists a reduction of four black points if they pledge not to commit violations or cause accidents on the first day of school.
Ras Al Khaimah Police said the initiative is designed to encourage safer driving habits while supporting broader efforts to secure school zones during peak hours.
Brigadier Ahmed Al Sam Al Naqbi, Director General of Central Operations at Ras Al Khaimah Police, said in a statement that a comprehensive field plan had been put in place to protect students and parents during drop-off and pick-up periods.
Patrols will be strategically deployed around what he described as “hot spots”, areas prone to congestion, particularly near schools and educational complexes.
“These measures are meant to ensure smooth traffic flow, prevent bottlenecks, and provide immediate support if needed, thereby enhancing student safety as they commute to and from school,” he said.
Patrols will operate across the emirate’s main districts, focusing on the hours between 6:30 and 8:30 a.m. and again from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
The initiative is being carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Emirates Transport, and the traffic systems company Saaed. RAK Police have also rolled out awareness programs for schools and bus drivers to reinforce safe driving practices.
School administrators, for their part, said teaching and administrative staff had finalized preparations for the new academic year, including assigning duties for the first day, organizing student entry and exit, and distributing safety instructions to parents about bus stops and private vehicles.
