Pictures: Major traffic accidents in the UAE

September 30, 2019: Eight people are killed and six seriously injured in a traffic accident on Mohammad Bin Zayed Road. A mini bus and a truck involved the accident on the Sharjah-bound lane, before Mirdif City Centre.

June 6, 2019: Seventeen people were killed and nine others were injured in the horrific road accident on Mohammad Bin Zayed Road on June 6 when a bus struck a height barrier.

May 22, 2018: Three men were killed on the spot in a crash involving two trucks on Emirates Road in Umm Al Quwain. A rescue team used special tools to extricate the three Asian victims from one vehicle, but all of them were pronounced dead on the spot.

June 24, 2017: 13 workers hurt as van that rammed the tree on Zabeel Road. Dubai Police said the driver lost control and the van swerved and crashed into the roadside tree.

July 26, 2016: Seven people were killed and 13 others were injured in a crash on Emirates Road involving a minibus and a truck laden with stones. The driver of the minibus transporting senior employees of a construction company crashed into the rear of the 70-tonne truck that had stopped in an undesignated area on Emirates Road in the Abu Dhabi direction, behind Al Maktoum International Airport.

January 8, 2015: Twenty people were injured in multi-vehicle crashes on the Abu Dhabi-Dubai road when dense fog reduced visibility. Eyewitness reports said 114 vehicles were involved in the pile-up between Al Reef Bridge towards Al Shahama.

May 10, 2014: Thirteen Asian workers are killed and 15 were injured when the bus they were travelling in hit a stationary truck on Emirates Road.

January 13, 2014: Four killed in a horrific head-on collision between a minibus and a car on Al Dhaid Road in Sharjah Three of the victims, who were travelling in a minibus, were burnt to death when the bus caught fire after the incident.

February 4, 2013: Twenty-four workers were killed and 24 injured in an accident near Al Rawda Palace on the Al Ain Abu Dhabi Truck Road. The picture shows rescue operations under way at the accident spot, 35km from downtown Al Ain.

April 12, 2012: Four men died and 19 were injured when a car veered in to the path of a minibus on the Shaam Al Rams road in Ras Al Khaimah.

February 16, 2012: Five people died when their minibus careened out of control following a burst tyre and landed in a ditch in Al Tawain area in Dibba, Fujairah.

2012: A minibus that was transporting workers was speeding when it was hit by a truck, killing four pepole in the horrific road accident in Sharjah Al Zubair area.

March 29, 2010: Six people died and 44 were injured in an early morning accident near Ruwais, about 240 km west of Abu Dhabi city when a truck and a bus collided. The truck, which was involved in the crash with a bus carrying labourers, lies on its side at the scene of the accident.

October 3, 2009: Seven people died and eleven were injured after a minibus rammed a vehicle on the Dubai-Al Ain high way.

March 11, 2008: Five commuters were killed and 277 injured in a horrific 200-vehicle pileup between Dubai and Abu Dhabi, according a police statement issued to official news agency WAM. Police blamed poor visibility due to fog and careless driving to be the cause of the accident.

2008: The mangled remains of the minibus which jumped the divider on Sheikh Rashid Road in Dubai and crashed into an oncoming car. The horrific accident gave rise to huge tailbacks.

November 25, 2007: Five members of a family, including three young children are killed when a car was hit by a four-wheel drive throwing it to the other side of the road in Abu Dhabi.

December 14, 2006: Sheikh Zayed Road in both directions came to a standstill during the early hours of this morning. A bus carrying labourers overturned opposite the Mall of the Emirates heading towards Jebel Ali while white mini van ploughed into the roof of the bus. Two were confirmed dead on the spot while ambulances and 2 helicopters took away the casualties.
