Dubai CID have arrested two women for allegedly selling a large number of pirated VCDs, some of which include pornographic scenes.
On March, 3, the Criminal Investigation Department received a report that Sh.O., D.Z., and D.K. were selling pirated DVDs, some of which violate public decency.
A team was assigned to arrest the culprits, and confiscate the discs. The second and third accused were seen attracting customers to an apartment. After some time, the team saw a customer carrying a bag believed to contain VCDs.
The team also noticed that the accused only sold VCDs to people of their own nationality. A few hours later, the second and third accused were seen bringing a vehicle along with five helpers, who started loading a number of cartons into the car.
After the loading was completed, the team raided the place and arrested the third accused, while the second was arrested after she ran into the apartment.
Searching the apartment, the team discovered two rooms full of cartons that contained VCDs. All the cartons - a total of 152 containing 136,637 VCDs - were confiscated.
The second and the third accused allegedly confessed that the VCDs belonged to the first accused. The confiscated material was referred to the Ministry of Information and Culture for checking, and the accused have been remanded in police custody pending trial.
